Our Flagship winery, we put our name on this one. Old world tradition and new world quality.
Our 2014 Claar Merlot has a dark color of boysenberry with a deep tone of purple plum. The nose contains dark spices of clove and anise with hints of Cynar amaro. Dark cherry and plum aromas are enveloped by a fragrance of confection and liquor. The palate is smooth and round with ash-like tannins melting away on the tongue. The finish is persistent with soft yet dark, candied black fruit flavor.
Bright cherry and strawberry fruit aroma intermingles with hints of vanilla, coffee and earthy black truffle. The lively acidity accentuates the light, yet gritty tannins and travels bound with the fruit for a lengthy time. This is a vibrant wine distinctly placed between young and old, light and dark and is prime for enjoying now or within the next 5 years.
Close to 3,900 growing degree days accumulated due to an excessively warm year. As a result, our 2015 Claar Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested in early September. This cabernet Sauvignon has a dark, eggplant like color. The first smell contains aromas of dark spices. Cloves, licorice and vanilla dominate the spice portion of the bouquet while dark aggregated fruit aromas of blackberry and mountain huckleberry intensify from the heart. The tannins are gritty and chewy swirling within a rich and voluminous palate. After the first sip, the tannins subside, and the fullness of flavor is revealed.
Our 2017 Riesling has a chamomile yellow color and aromas of white flower, lychee, pear, jasmine and kiwifruit. The palate is crisp with acidity. There is a nice weight to the wine that holds the complexing white fruit flavors on the tongue for quite some time.
Harvested in December the wine shows a beautiful late harvest bouquet of honey, peaches, dried fruit and melon. The acidity is bright and refreshing perfectly balanced with the fruit and residual sugar. A really nice wine to drink young but if given time it will gain more of the classic kerosene notes found in premium Rieslings around the world.
The fruit from this blend was sourced from our premium winemaker’s blocks. The resulting wine shows a brilliant ruby stone color with aromas of dark chocolate truffle, fresh roasted coffee beans, blackberry pie, dense alpine forests, vanilla and freshly cut cherry wood. The palate is full-bodied with gripping tannins that provide the backbone for a lengthy cherry liqueur finish.
Our 2013 Claar Syrah is dense Tyrian purple in color with aromas of dark cherry, vanilla, smoky bacon, tobacco leaf, Indian spices, and earthy beet root. The palate is balanced with round tannins that provide for a rich texture leading to a complex finish of cherry syrup and dessert spices.
Our 2013 Sangiovese is racing red in color which is termed “rosso corsa” when referring to the red color of Italian racecars such as Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and Ferrari. Intense aromas of red currants, strawberry jam and maraschino cherries are prominent with subtle round notes of tiramisu filling the bouquet. The palate contains bright acidity with soft and chewy tannins. The finish is soft and sweet leaving you wanting more.
This is a wine that peaks with strong varietal fruit of apple and citrus and is accompanied by toasty aromas, butterscotch and caramel - and a strong palate weight. The acidity is balanced and helps transform the wine on its way to a complex lingering finish.
Our 2016 Chardonnay has a rich golden mead-like color. The nose contains aromas of crisp apple, citrus, pineapple husk, light notes of plantains and an underlying hint of toasted grains. The palate is full and weighty with a brilliant acidity that strengthens onto the tip of the tongue and promotes a pleasing finish of light stone fruit, kiwifruit and lemon.
